Our Mission

The Stoneham Figure Skating Club (SFSC) was established in October of 1976 as a non-profit 501 (C) (3) organization to promote the sport of amateur figure skating.  Revenues generated through the Club’s operations and fundraising activities are used to fulfill this mission.

About Us

The Club is a sanctioned member of US Figure Skating, the governing body for the sport of US figure skating.  An elected 12- member Board of Governors charged with effectively managing all aspects of the Club’s operations governs SFSC.  The Club provides group instruction for the recreational skater; private ice for recreational and competitive skaters; US Figure Skating test sessions; an Annual Ice Revue, along with a host of educational and outreach activities throughout the year.  For more than a quarter of a century, the SFSC has taught children and adults to skate on the Club’s “home ice” at the Stoneham Arena.

US Figure Skating Basic Skills Program (your participation entitles you to full group membership w/ the USFS)
CLICK FOR APPLICATION

The SFSC provides group and semi-private instruction through the US Figure Skating’s Basic Skills Badge program.  The Badge Program encompasses the fundamentals of figure skating (Basic 1-8) for the beginner skater, and freestyle skating (Freestyle 1-6) for the intermediate and advanced skater.  The Club offers group instruction to skater ages 3½ through adult.

Classes consist of 25 minutes of instruction and a 25-minute free skate to allow skaters to hone their new skills.  Group, semi- private, and minipatch classes are typically offered in 10-week sessions beginning in September, November, January and April.  All sessions are pro- rated to allow the flexibility of joining at any time.  Group skaters enrolled in the Winter I and Winter II sessions are eligible to participate in the Club’s Annual Ice Revue in April—a full-scale production showcasing talent of our group and private skaters.

Group Lessons

 Tuesday 3 – 3:50 p.m.

 Saturday 12 – 12:50 p.m.

 Sunday 1 – 1:50 p.m.

Group classes are ideal for the beginner and advanced recreational figure and hockey skater.  The emphasis is on mastering the graduated series of fundamental skating skills to give students a solid skating foundation.  There is a limit of 12 skaters per class to ensure the teacher/student ratio remains conducive to the best learning experience possible in a group setting.

Adult Classes

   Saturday 10 – 10:50 a.m.

The adult skater is the most rapidly growing segment in the sport.  SFSC’s adult program caters to the adult skater (18+)—beginner through advanced—seeking an alternative fitness program or returning to the sport after years off of the ice.

Semi- Private Lessons

   Saturday 10 – 10:50 a.m.

Semi- private classes provide accelerated instruction for skaters who have passed the 8th Basic Skills Badge.  Classes are limited to six skaters to provide more individualized attention.

BRIDGE

   Saturday 10 – 10:50

The bridge program is ideal for the recreational skater seeking a more intensive learning experience.  The class consists of a 15-minute private lesson and 35-minute free skate to introduce group skaters to private instruction.  Bridge instruction is available to skaters for a maximum of three sessions.  Upon the completion of bridge, students can return to group instruction or contract a coach for private instruction.

Private Instruction

All of our Club’s professionals are members of US Figure Skating.  Each coach is at least 18 years old and has passed the minimum of novice freestyle.  CORI checks are required for all Club professionals. The Club’s professionals are available to contract independently for private instruction. Rates vary.
